Ribbon Falls Grand Canyon

It’s True

Typically the most common word expressed at the rim of Grand Canyon is, “Wow!”  However, the past few weeks, 2 words have been spoken over and over again. They were spoken with an expression of confidence, peace, and great satisfaction.  These words were, “It’s true!”

Jesus told Pilot in John 18:37, “You say that I am a king.  For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth.  Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”  Jesus was saying, “It’s true!”  Previously in the Gospel of John, Jesus proclaimed “the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

My wife and I recently joined some friends for a hike in Grand Canyon.  Our destination was, Ribbon Falls, a place none of us had been before.  We each did a little bit of investigating to discover just how far it was and the route to get there.  When we got together to begin our adventure, we compared our notes and discovered each person had found different details about the length of the journey.  Furthermore, we received word from the park staff that some signs might be down and a bridge was closed for fear of it collapsing.  We began our journey with the general idea in mind, but were slightly uncertain of some of the details.

At first, the fuzzy details were of no concern and did not impact our travel.  However, the closer we got to our desired destination, the more important having an accurate map became.  We had chosen one particular route to follow, but held shaky confidence in the information it provided.  At one point along the way, we were beginning to wonder if the turnoff was still ahead of us or if we had already passed it.  You can imagine the relief we felt when we found the turn we were looking for. We also discovered the information this particular map had provided was indeed true.  We were soon enjoying the joys of the waterfall

It would have been fantastic if at some point along the way an individual who knew the path ahead joined our adventure and guided us safely to our destination.  This is exactly what Jesus did.  He is the way to our destination.  Jesus came in the flesh to testify to the truth.  He wanted us to stride right and true along the path.  He came to provide testimony that all the scriptures were true.  It was time for us all to lean not on our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge Him and He would direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:5,6)

This is what so many have been experiencing at the Grand Canyon.  The truth of God’s word crescendos out of the canyon with a deafening sound.  The testimony of the rocks bears witness to the truth of God’s word and His people can’t help but utter, “It’s true!”  These words are sometimes spoken with tears and sometimes with smiles, but at all times with a huge sense of peace. Praise God, it’s true!

Praiseallujiah!
