Love Wins The Day

Love Wins The Day

When our feelings have been hurt: LOVE wins the day.

When impatience corrodes our heart: LOVE wins the day.

When anger burns in our gut: LOVE wins the day.

When pride urges us to fight and be right: LOVE wins the day.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”  John 13:34-35 (ESV)

How well do we love?  That question is much more important than how much we know or how well we speak.  1 Corinthians 13:3 instructs, “If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” (ESV)

Verse 13 of the same chapter says, “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (ESV)

Love diffuses anger, fear, jealousy, hatred, pride, and despair.  Love conquers when everything else fails.

Having answers is an act of obedience (as commanded in 1 Peter 3:15).  Wielding our knowledge as a weapon to belittle others and exert dominance is a victory for Satan.  Our greatest impact is achieved through love and respect.  Our dedication to knowledge, understanding, and wisdom is of great significance.  However, without love, it is a vain pursuit.  I will pursue wisdom and understanding until the day I die.  Yet, when I leave this place, I do not want to be remembered by how deeply I thought but by how profoundly I loved!

The Grand Canyon is one of the greatest classrooms in the world.  I may spend the remainder of my days investigating its secrets and understanding its message of judgment and redemption.  However, the spirit of this knowledge remains shackled until it is set free by love.  Growing in knowledge is an act of love toward the One who made us and teaching that insight is an act of love toward those around us.  This is the privilege, responsibility, and joy of teaching at the Grand Canyon.

Praiseallujiah!

Dear Jon, We want to thank you for making our 50th Wedding Anniversary trip so memorable. Your knowledge and compassion for others shines through. And your sense of humor. And your listening skills.
I’ve already told several of the ministry and hope that many will take advantage of God’s great gift to us in seeing the Grand Canyon through His eyes.
