Only 2 Days

Jon's Sunset Only 2 DaysThe craziness of life can be all consuming.  Days roll by like the cars on a runaway train.  There are brief moments when we get a break from the fire hose of responsibility and expectation.  We cherish those times like the final drop of water on a desert trek.  Every day matters and we are compelled by Christ’s love to live in humble pursuit of the objectives of His kingdom.  This requires us to be self-controlled so that we can pray (1 Peter 4:7) and alert and so we can take action (1 Peter 1:13).  In light of this, I keep the closest attention to only 2 days on my calendar.  It does not mean that the rest are ignored, goals are not set, and objectives not pursued.  It’s a mindset…a condition of the heart.  The only 2 days that matter the most are:

Today and the day I stand before my King!

Jon and Kathleen Only 2 DaysSpending extended time in the wilderness away from the comforts of everyday life and conveniences of modern living brings clarity to the rub between what we need versus what we want.  Jesus’ model prayer for us set the standard to seek only what we need for that day (give us this day our daily bread; Matthew 6:11). Today is a gift that will not be repeated.  Live today in obedience to the command to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:34-40).

A day is coming when our King will return (Revelation 22:12-13; Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) and we will all stand before Him to give an account for the actions and attitudes of our life (Matthew 12:36-37; Romans 14:12; Hebrews 4:12-13).  He will be most concerned with the condition of our heart and manner in which we loved people.  Keeping this day in mind helps to temper the reactions we have toward people in tense moments and seasons our conversation with salt (Colossians 4:6).  It creates the appropriate context needed to set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:1) and pursue the things that are unseen rather than what is seen (2 Corinthians 4:18).

My time in Grand Canyon has been vital in maintaining this perspective and it can be for you as well.  Grand Canyon combines the right ingredients to whisk you away from the perceived necessities of life and unveil before you the testimony of God’s righteous defense of His holiness.

Praiseallujiah!,

Jon
