I'm a huge fan of the classic western ballads. I like a song that gets somewhere and tells a compelling story.  The best ballads make you laugh, cry, shudder a bit, and leave you inspired.  There have been some fantastic ballad writers/singers over the years: Marty Robbins, Jimmy Dean, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Tom T. Hall and many others.  However, these are completely forgettable names when compared to the ballad God wrote when He formed Grand Canyon. The Ballad of Grand Canyon inspires from the first note.  Launching from Lee's

Two Reflections upon 2015 1.) People love Grand Canyon! The joy and excitement of Grand Canyon visitors are the only things capable of filling the vast expanse in front of them.  There is a childlike wonder that hovers over the crowd of visitors and unites people of all walks of life.  Truly, the only thing that can outmatch the splendor of Grand Canyon is the people whom God crafted in His own image.  It's a deep joy to serve the kingdom at Grand Canyon. 2.) People are drawn to the truth! It is nearly

We share Psalm 104 as often as we can, with as many people as we can. "Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great!  You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.  He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; He makes the clouds his chariot; He rides on the wings of the wind; He makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire.  He set the earth

It is November and we just received 6 inches of snow. We are 5 months away from the river season.  These images draw me back to the tales of the river and inspire me to anticipate the people and adventures that await me. I remember when: We set up a waterslide with paco pads and threw ourselves down the sand dune into the cold Colorado River. The monsoons brought waterfalls tumbling over the canyon walls as far as the eye could see. The redish, brown water cascaded down

Mather Point I have often used the illustration of a home to discuss the significance of Genesis as the foundation of our life. Today I want to consider what the foundation supports.  In other words, what is depending upon the integrity and strength of the foundation?  The following are 4 pillars rising strong and true from the foundation that define our life.  We earnestly depend upon these pillars moment by moment as they, in turn, deeply depend upon the foundation. FAITH Our relationship with God begins with our creation as described in Genesis

Winter provides some of the most spectacular views of Grand Canyon! 5 reasons from Genesis to get up and get going today! #5: You are created in the image of the Creator for glory and honor. You are significant! (Genesis 1:26-31) #4: You have a responsibility to creation that you must fulfill.  You are needed! (Genesis 1:26-2:25) #3: You are not perfect and have fallen short, but Christ has defeated our enemy.  You are victorious in Him! (Genesis 3:15) #2: You are of the line of Noah whom God preserved in

It is nearly midnight and I should be asleep.  But my mind is not at rest because my heart is burdened. Jesus made a significant request to His Father in the garden the night He was betrayed. "My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who believe in me through their message, that they may be one, Father, Just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

North Rim of Grand Canyon Discerning the difference between what is actually fact and what is interpretation of fact is key to processing the deluge of information flooding our senses every day. I was standing at the rim of Grand Canyon with a group of our guests discussing the relationship between the sedimentary layers in Grand Canyon and the Genesis flood.  As often happens, a gentleman standing nearby was listening to our conversation.  When there was a break in the conversation, he asked a good question. "How can you say that these

4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind

"I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;" (Job 42:5) A friend recently made a comment to me that has set off a thought barrage akin to a fireworks finale.  It was a simple statement saturated with significance.  He said, "I like the way you 'see' things!"  I responded with, "Amen!!!!! You have to look to see!" The conversation ended there, but the thoughts have rolled like thunder.      To see we must seek.  Seeking requires time, energy, focus, and the truth
