Simple Man

I’m a simple guy.  God refreshes my mind, spirit, and soul by simple means.  I thrive with a smile from my wife, a giggle with my kids, a good cup of coffee, the partnership with my horse, a lonely wilderness trail, and my Bible. I prefer endeavors that require little technology and a lot of fresh air. The older I get, the less I want.  I consider and meditate upon deep issues and ideas, but I cling to simple truths.

The details related to a discussion of Genesis and our origins can become quite intense.  The scientific and theological nuances are deep waters even for the most committed scholar.  At times this can leave people feeling under-prepared and intimidated to engage these topics even for the benefit of their own heart.  The unfortunate response in that case is to simply ignore the issue and focus energy on the concerns of the moment.  So, my friends, if you have ever deemed the issues of Genesis 1-11 and the consideration of our origins too complex and convoluted to engage, then the following few words are for you.

Here is a short (because short is simple) list of simple truths I cling to when considering our origins.

  • None of us were there in the beginning.
  • God is the only eye-witness.
  • God’s word is true, accurate, and reliable.
  • God is knowable through observance of creation.
  • The issue is not what God is capable of doing, but rather what He said He did.
  • There is no reason to reject that God created JUST the way He said He did.

The deep details of creation are rich for those that choose to dive in.  However, the Bible is not reserved for those with decades of formal education.  A Canyon Ministries trip will provide the deep thinker all the opportunity in the world to wrestle with many ideas and perspectives.  Simultaneously, the one who simply needs the opportunity to reflect on God’s goodness will be adequately served. God knows the hearts of all people and is willing to meet us all exactly where we are.  Ultimately, this is about God’s desire for our heart.  He pursued us because our intellect is incapable of bridging the gap between us and Him.

Off to the trail for me.  You are loved!

Praiseallujiah!
